Yes, I noticed the same thing.  CFRI is a non-profit that was started back in the late 80's and as I understand it, GOREIA was recently started by Robyn Thompson, "The Queen of Rehab" and a student of Ron LeGrand.  It looks like she is following the same format as CFRI.

There is also IRC (Investors Resource Center) headed up by Chuck Bart, that meets in Winter Park.

There are 31 states where the seller pays for the owner's title insurance policy. Zach is correct that in Central Florida it is customary for the seller to choose the title company and pay for the insurance, however in Miami/Dade, and I believe Collier County, it is normally paid by the buyer.

A good source for information is ALTA (American Land Title Association)

@Brian Flack if you notice the timeline @Christopher McClatchey didn't "jump right in"... his response was 5 months later.  I understand Chris wanting to clarify his credentials, and I also appreciate James' attitude when it comes to courses that promote "sitting around in your underwear" and running on automate without any time or effort required.  @James Wise gave his response based on @Darmi Parikh's post (which I don't believe accurately describes Chris' course) and things got a little sideways from there.

Welcome to BiggerPockets Brian, and I look forward to seeing future comments from folks that have first-hand experience with this investor/coach.

It was disappointing to see the direction this thread took with the interaction between Chris and James, however I appreciate Jay taking the time to interject.

I think James read more into Chris' program due to his statement: "The notion that someone can spend zero dollars and put in zero time because you have developed an automated process is pie in the sky."  I agree that is "pie in the sky" and also know this is not what Chris promotes.  Chris specializes in owner financing with zero down and zero interest... this doesn't necessarily mean that there is no money put down on the transaction, but that HE doesn't put any money into the down payment.  Perhaps also he can expand more on how automation plays a PART in his business.

Although I have not signed up for Chris' program, I have talked with many of his students that are involved, have taken action, and succeeding with his method. I've heard him talk on many occasions at our local REIA, and seen actual case studies of the deals that he completes (not just teaches.)

While BiggerPockets provides excellent information that you can implement and be successful, some people just need that added support system of a coach.  This is where Chris excels since he is very "hands on" and involved... I hope that level of service continues as he takes his training to the national level.

I always enjoy seeing James' involvement and contributions to this site, and hope that he is able to know Chris on a more personal basis and learn that he is not your "typical guru."  And it's good to see Chris become active with BiggerPockets, as I know his knowledge will be valuable to all of the members.

Post: Cleaning a Shingle Roof (Mold and Black Stains)

DO NOT PRESSURE WASH! If you pressure wash, you will remove granules thus shorten the life of your roof.

There are companies that will clean shingles using solutions and low-pressure washing however, a less costlier way is to use the 50/50 bleach/water solution, let it sit and then rinse with the garden hose.  Be sure to soak down any plants or shrubs that are close to the drip line beforehand because the bleach will have the same effect on them that it does on the mildew.

You will notice tile roofs as well as shingle roofs in Florida with "black" on them because dirt (which is organic) accumulates and allows the mold/mildew to grow.

"will I guess the way to look at it you have a title issue and your remedies are with the title company. "

Charles, if you have truly read through all of the posts, I don't see how you could make this conclusion.  This is a case of the courts given credence to a professional scammer and refusing to review the evidence in front of them... not negligence on the part of the title company for failing to research and provide clear title.

I got this message last night around 7:30 pm EST.

Edwin, welcome to BP.  As Ryan mentioned, CFRI is a great group to check out and the next general meeting is at Edgewater High School.  There is no dress code... you will see people dressed from shorts and flip flops to suits, with the majority on the casual side.

The general meeting will probably have around 200 people attending with various vendors set up in the lobby.  The real advantage to CFRI though, are all of the Focus groups you can attend throughout the month (much smaller crowd... 15 to 40 people, and they are included in your membership)

Hope to see you there!

It took me a minute to figure out how to navigate the site:  For anyone else looking, click on the "PREVIOUS" arrow, as this link starts at the END of the article.

I'm curious Andrew, what made you look at Bessemer since you are located outside of Atlanta?
