Post: Does anybody know an investing contact for real estate in SE Asia

Hi @Hailey Sexton! What city will you be moving to?

I'm not sure about other countries in SEA, but Thailand uses highly protectionist strategies regarding real estate. Foreign investors are generally limited to purchasing condos and the like, and aren't allowed to purchase any land unless citizenship is obtained.

There are a few ways to get around that, but there is a lot of red tape and security is minimal. It is possible to act through a business entity, but the business must be 51% Thai owned unless a substantial amount of money will be brought into the country, and the courts tend to judge in favor of Thai nationals should anything go awry. Personally, I would be very wary of purchasing anything outside the realm of a condo.

As far as renting out rooms, I would be sure to have a written lease agreement and have it translated before signing. If you need help with that I have a few contacts in Chiang Mai I could refer you to. I know a couple agents there as well.

That said, I lived in Thailand for about 6 years and can't wait to get back! If you have any other questions about Thailand I'd be happy to help as best as I can, even if they aren't real estate related. Feel free to PM me.

Enjoy the adventure!

Hello everyone!

It's time once again for our monthly meeting at the Lakewood Ram on Monday, September 19! Networking starts at 7pm, but if you can't make it until later that's fine too, as we can usually be found hanging around until they kick us out. If you arrive early and the private room isn't open yet, you can find the rest of us early birds chatting away in the bar.

If you've never been one of our meetups before, you should know that it's a fairly casual environment dedicated to 100% self directed networking. That means no speakers, no gurus, and no membership fees! If you're looking to speak to a particular type of investor, just let one of us know and we'll point you in the right direction. We will also dedicate a few minutes to group introductions so you can let everyone know who you are, what you do, what you have to offer, and what you're looking for.

Come on down to network with other investors, both newbies and long time pros. Bring your questions, bring your business cards, and bring your deals! We strongly encourage attendees to bring their appetites as well, as we rely on you to help us ensure that enough food and drinks are purchased to waive the room charge.

The Lakewood Ram is located at 10019 59th Ave SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.

Don't forget that our monthly Seattle meetup is 7pm TOMORROW at Orfeo!
2107 3rd Ave, Seattle, WA 98121

See you all soon!

We also have a Kirkland meeting every month but the next one is a couple weeks out. We'd love it if you could join us at any or all of them!

Hi @Jeremy Benezra! Are you still working as a GC? There's a quite a few folks in our group that are really in need of some quality contractors! There's also a few commercial investors and lenders in our group who would be interested in working with you throughout the process of finding and acquiring a commercial deal of any size.

Once you have some time freed up, we'd love it if you could make it to our meetups! You can join our meetup page to stay up to date on our events and schedule here: http://www.meetup.com/PacificNWRealEstate/

Hope to see you around soon!

@Alex Chin Thanks for the mention! We're always looking to create new opportunities and foster great relationships!

Welcome to the PNW @Trina Seever

My colleagues and I host a few networking meetups in the greater Puget Sound area each month. The Lakewood meetup that we host would be the closest one to your area, about a 30 minute drive depending on traffic. I'll link to our meetup page below so you can join and keep up to date on our events if you're interested. Good luck with the move and I hope to meet you and your family when you make it into town!

Thanks for the mention @Alex Chin!
