I have had a SDIRA for about 20 years. Equity Trust has been adequate but sometimes for no reason start to clamp down on how checks are written. I have had no problems the last few years. The problem I have is that if one wants to manage their own properties it is very awkward. For example, a renter called with a plumbing problem that needed immediate attention. I called a plumber but they would not come without a cc #. ETC will not allow cc's for their accounts. Because of situations like this I decided to open a checkbook IRA. As ETC will not allow checkbook IRA's I went with a custodian that does. Notes do not have the same problem. I have all of my notes with ETC and my rentals with Advanta. I have been very happy with this arrangement.

I can recommend Advanta IRA. They will help you set up a checkbook IRA at a reasonable rate. You will be assigned one point of contact for your questions. I have had them for about 3 months and been very happy.

I will add to you small sample size Brian Larsen. I am 76 years old. When my parents sold some farmland in upstate New York they carried the mortgage. When my husband and I sold our first house in Torrence California we carried a second. To me it was the easiest free money I had ever had. I have been interested in real estate ever since.

Welcome to Arkansas. I live in the Hot Springs Village which is a gated community oriented toward retirees. This is not in your area but Bella Vista is the same sort of community in NW Arkansas. You may find the realtors you are looking for there.
