SF Bay Summit Photos! (click the link and tag yourself and a friend :)
Thanks so much to everyone who came out and made the SF Bay Summit an awesome time :)
I learned a ton, met some more awesome people :)

I'm getting the video ready for those who got it, survey results, and networking app results, to send out.
So what are you up to now that the Summit got you connected and motivated?
Working on deals with anyone? Implementing a strategy from something you learned at the event?
Let us know below! And tag a friend :)

Targeted networking focused on geography/city/state

Breakout Sessions. I think this was @Lynn Currie's session on raising capital the right way.. Packed!!
@Doug Chinn, @Account Closed's session on Saving on Taxes.  Her donation of time for our charity auction brought in $4k for orphan children in Vietnam. Thank you SO MUCH for everything!!!

For everyone who came out from Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, San Diego, and everywhere in between - thank you so much for your open sharing with others, and all the amazing support raising over $20K for charity!! :)

Survey results, Whova (networking app) results, the edited videos, and more, coming soon!
I was on a motorcycle trip in India right after the Summit, so thank you for your patience :)
From Chiang Mai, Thailand,
J Martin

This is why I love real estate and networking!
What are you doing today to live your dreams and reach your goals?

@Lena Wang,

To be honest, I don't know a damn thing about Ohio. So I think talking to some locals would be best. Make a post here with names of other nearby cities, to hit some keyword alerts. Take into account what @Jad

@Jad Boudiabundefined said.  Maybe check with @Engelo Rumora. 11% cap rate is definitely on the high side, if calculated correctly. You may be able to get less than a 6.5% rate, but you'd have to shop around for lending in that market. I know other well-heeled folks getting half that interest rate (albeit in better/more metro locations..).

Call other Multifamily agents in the area and ask them for the marketing packages on the other deals they have in the area. What do the expenses look like? What is missing from yours? What is higher or lower on yours?

What are the market rents? What are the current rents? Check CBRE, Marcus & Millichap, etc.

What kind of neighborhood is it? (start w/ city-data.com for demographic, income, and crime info, in addition to more..)

Hope that helps! Good luck :)

We have been vacationing as a family more than ever.  Next up mid-December is a week in the southeast-ish (NO, Memphis, Nashville).  $4k just for airfare and hotel, will probably be $6k by the time we eat and attend events/museums.

I'm nowhere near travelling awesomeness like our buddy @J. Martin, but I am getting there and it's a work in progress. Trying for experiences where the ROI is building memories. Thanks for doing this @David Zheng!

 THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE AREN'T THINGS ;)

Way to enjoy life with your family Steve. Don't have to feel guilty about that ;)

After I finished up the Summit this year, I rode a motorcycle from the Taj Mahal to the Pushkar camel fair, and back up to Delhi. Was an amazing experience!

And just landed in Chiang Mai the other day, for the lantern festival in Thailand. @Arlen Chou will be meeting up in Vietnam with me a bit later. And enjoying traveling with my gf :)  Flying back to the US in April for @Dave Van Horn's East Coast Summit. Then we'll see from there..

Keep rocking and enjoying life Steve :)

Stoked to be out in Manhattan! Thanks for letting me come out and share @Darren Sager :)
I live my entire life last minute, so no worries there ;)

* Did you know you can still make more money on Airbnb, even legally, under short-term rental regulations?
* That you can run most businesses remotely (with the right strategies)?
* That it's possible to buy cash-flowing deals in high-priced areas?
* That you can use your networking and RE investing to achieve your goals way sooner than you would have thought?

Lots of folks doing it in the high-priced Bay Area, and I know you can do it too, with some diligence.
Looking forward to sharing my experiences, answering any questions, and having a good discussion about what is working today.

Hopefully we'll get some folks from NYC, Newark, Jersey City, and Hoboken.
Gonna be a fun time. Let me know what you'd most like to hear about, and I'll focus on that :)
Looking forward to it!!

@Will Barnard
"Great event thus far, lots of networking going on here"
Glad you're expanding your connections too Will :) Getting all the speakers together for dinner was great, and raising that $20k for charity even better!

@Joseph Fang,
"Having a blast meeting many BP celebrities! Looking forward to learning more tomorrow!"
It's crazy seeing all those people together in one room and getting all their opinions in a single gathering. Hopefully Sunday was just as good for you :)

@Ethan Cooke,

"The Summit was an awesome event!! Great inspiration and even more actionable insights. It's a joy to be among so many experienced, motivated entrepreneurs taking so many paths to achieve their goals. It really opened up my eyes to new areas like note investing and development. Also, learning from folks like @Ben Leybovich , @Al Williamson and @J. Martin confirmed that I can realize my goals to achieve financial freedom through Bay Area furnished rentals. HUGE shout out to J. Martin for an amazing, value-packed weekend!! For a self-proclaimed lazy guy, you worked your *** off to pull this thing together and did a HUGE service to the REI community and to charity. THANK YOU."

You definitely came with a goal in mind, and met the right people to get there. Thank you so much for the shout out. It's what makes it all worth doing :) (on top of the $20K for charity)

@Jeff Greenberg,
@John Casmon rocks. You guys make me feel lazy!! lol

@Jay Hinrichs,

"great event.. Bruce Norris was worth the cost of admission.... this is a super event.. J. Martin has done a super job putting this all together.."

Ahh Jay, you're making me blush! Glad you enjoyed my interview with Bruce Norris. I've always wanted to pick his brain, get a sense for what he feels about fallout in the next cycle, and where he's putting his money today. You hit the nail on the head! You two have a lot of similarities in your business. Thanks so much for coming out to share, and I'll get you confirmed earlier next year so we can get you up on the stage for a solo session & Q&A with the audience next year.

@Bac Nguyen,
Glad you decided to make it out after all, and meet some great folks.

@Amit M.,
We'll have the video of all the non-breakout-sessions for sale, in case there's anything you missed. He also called a recession in 2018 or just thereafter, if I remember correctly. But without loose lending and higher foreclosure rates, doesn't expect big price dip. And as Jay said, hard to understand the rules/economics in the Bay. Should have asked him more about affordability measures... Gotta save something for next time though!

@Chris Mason,
It was so interesting to hear all the questions that come out of the woodwork on lending for your session, and glad you were able to get through so many of them. There are so many intricacies, and appreciate you sticking up for the investor ;)  I wish I could make it to @Katie P.'s next meetup also, but flying out tonight to East Coast, then India on Saturday! I'll send back some travel video, and try to do some online calls or something where a bunch of us can discuss topics. Keep up the awesome networking while I'm gone!

Shout out to @Dave Van Horn for the great pics from FB, helping support the event, and supporting charity. Note investing kept popping up as a priority to many investors I spoke with, and the interest after your session was huge Dave! Thanks again for coming out to share and support the event Dave. Really an amazing time.

Here's the highlight reel again for anyone who missed it:

 Chris,

Just posted on my FB page. Crazy how large this one was. Glad most folks are OK, including @Brian Burke@Jenifer Levini, not sure if your house is OK. But highly in need right now..

We will have the speaker videos for sale and will send out an email announcement and post on here when ready.. Check back!

Also special shoutout to @Brie Schmidt for sharing these pics on FB. We'll have MANY more as we get them back from our photographer..

It was amazing to have been able to sit down to interview Bruce Norris and pick his brain with the questions I've always wanted to ask him. First SF Bay Summit started in 2014. Have come a long way!

As always, great networking.

The beautiful view of Lake Merritt from the balcony of our event.

The crowd getting ready for @Kathy Fettke's presentation.

Will post more as I get them!

@Jonny C.

Yes we'll be filming, and will sell the video at a reasonable cost, especially for attendees who buy it at the event. Looking forward to seeing you there!

@Sergey Tkachev,

Welcome back! (from travels, and for the third time at the Summit!). You're in for the Saturday speaker dinner at the venue at 7:30PM because you won the Facebook sharing prize. So come hang out tomorrow night too :)

@Meghan McCallum, @Bac Nguyen, @John Casmon, @Linda Weygant, @Brie Schmidt,

****Friday night drinks & dinner****

I already made a reservation, including for attendees and speakers, at another restaurant in downtown Oakland. You should have received an email about it, but will send another message out :)
