@Maimouna Sow You may find it beneficial to check out the resources BiggerPockets provides under the landlord resources tab.  You can find this tab by hovering over the tools area and clicking "landlord resources" under services.

I would recommend doing some research on what company best fits what type of background check results you are looking to receive. Good luck!

@Kyle Hoppman BiggerPockets has recommended tenant screening companies on the landlord resources tab.  You can find the landlord resources tab by hovering over the "tools" bar and clicking "Landlord Resources" which you can find under the services area.

I would recommend researching what company would best fit your screening needs.  You might also find it helpful to search "tenant screening" or "background checks" in the search bar to see what services other investors have been using.

Best of luck!

@Jerry Pierce BiggerPockets has recommended screening companies on their site under the landlord resources tab.  You can find the link I provided by hovering over the tools tab and clicking on "landlord resources" under services.

I would recommend researching what company best fits your screening needs.  Most companies will give you the option to have your applicant pay for the report if you did not want to cover the cost yourself.  Some states also allow you to collect an application fee which you can use to cover the screening costs as well.  I would check with your state and local laws to make sure you are allowed to do so first.

@Evan Haag Thank you for the mention!

@Luis Quintero Congratulations on your investment, you're in the right place to learn all there is to Real Estate Investing. I would recommend screening anyone over the age of 18 that will be residing in your property, as well as verify income as Evan stated above.  I also believe you would find it beneficial to verify an applicant's previous rental history with previous landlords as well to get a hint into what they would be like as a tenant for you.

Good luck!

@Nancy Carr Hi Nancy, I took a look at your RentPrep account and it looks like you ordered the SmartMove package. SmartMove is a TransUnion product that is resold on our website.  Unfortunately, due to how criminal records are reported to the databases, we always recommend doing your due diligence like you did to catch anything the database may not have reported.

Feel free to utilize our FCRA certified screening team as a resource if you ever have any specific questions about a report you receive.

@Ryan O'Malley Hi Ryan, BiggerPockets has recommended screening companies on their site in the landlord resources tab.  You can also find this link by hovering over the tools bar and clicking "landlord resources" under the services category.  I would recommend doing some research to determine what company may best fit your screening needs.

@Mark W. Thank you for the mention!

Best of luck to you both and stay safe!

@Williams Jones I would recommend screening anyone over the age of 18 that will be residing in your property. You should have each adult fill out and sign their own rental applications as well. You should set strict screening criteria for what you are looking for in a potential tenant to steer away those who would just be wasting your time.

BiggerPockets has recommended screening companies right on their site that you should do some research on to see what company best fits your screening needs.  You can find the list on the landlord resources tab.  Best of luck to you!

@Dakota Wilde Thank you Dakota, we appreciate the mention! I hope you are staying safe during these crazy times.

@Wendy Lavana Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, applicants are entitled to a free copy of their report.  I would recommend providing the denied applicant with the contact information of the company that ran the check for you and the company you used can walk through the steps with the denied applicant on how they can receive their free copy of the report.

@Cameron Barsanti Congrats on your new investment!  BiggerPockets has recommended screening companies right on their site in the landlord resources tab that you can do some research on to see what company best fits your screening needs.

I would recommend setting strict screening criteria for what you are looking for in a potential tenant.  This will help steer away applicants who would just be wasting your time.

I recommend having any adults 18 and older that will be residing at your property fill out and sign a rental application as well as have a screening conducted on them, but that is ultimately up to you.

Good luck with your investment!
