Danny F. To clarify, you don't need a special use permit on Kauai if your property is located in one of Kauai's Visitor Destination Areas (VDAs), which are, generally, Princeville on the North Shore, Poipu on the South Shore and the resort areas of Kapaa/Wailua and Lihue. Outside of those areas, you needed to have operated a vacation rental prior to the ruling in 2008 and have obtained a permit to be grandfathered in. Hope that helps. I'm happy to help guide anyone looking to obtain a vacation rental property on Kauai.
