Well it seems the guys from the south are ok with it and the guys from the north not so much. I guess I will plan on putting a gas insert in and not hooking it up till I sell in a few years. I don't want to block it off and not sure I really trust tenants with any fire at all so I will just hook the gas up on a later date. Thanks for the input fellows.

I bought a house at a really good price that has a fireplace in it. The fireplace has glass doors in front of it and there isn't any carpet close to it. I was wondering if there is anything special I should do. The last thing I want is for something bad to happen.

Got in at 36 in 2008. Wanted in a lot earlier but in hindsight I am very lucky I didn't get in before the bubble burst. Got in because I realized my J.O.B. was dead end and wanted more control of my future. Absolutely the best move I have ever made. We have 5 SFH now and plan to double in the next year and a half.

Jon- That's what I been thinking but have been trying to give my new employer the benefit of the doubt. Really don't want to piss off the new owners but I do need answers. I really don"t understand why Wells Fargo can"t tell me where they released our funds to. Its our money but not really I guess. I put a call in today to a financial adviser at Raymond James today. Talked with his assistant and should be getting a call from him soon.

Greg- Thanks for the info I checked it out. I will wait for the advise from the adviser before I decide what to do. This is one of those things where you have to be careful not to make people mad. Just not sure how long before I should say enough's enough.

In short my company was bought out last year and my new employer can't locate the funds of anybody that was invested in the money market fund. There is about 8 of us that are missing funds. The rollover was supposed to be complete by 4/1/11 We notified them by May 1st and its been since then and the Human Resources dept. can't seem to locate the funds. All they keep saying is its locked up for 12 months. We never received anything saying that it would be locked up. I would never have put my money into something that pays less than 1% and lock it up for a year knowingly. I did receive a statement from Wells Fargo showing that the account was closed out on 2/28/11. We are starting to get frustrated and not sure what to do. Should we be seeking an attorney??? or wait it out??? is our money locked up or are they trying to buy some more time to find the funds????

The more I invest in these 401k's the more I think they are a joke. I really hate other people having control over my money. Whats going to happen when 90% of the population is vested this way. My guess is the government will find a way to tax the hell out of them. NEVER follow the herd.

I love the power of the Muscle cars but the big round curves of the older cars is the best....
39/40 Lincoln Zepher
49/50 Mercury
40 Ford & International pickups
55 Chevy Belair
Cobras
Karmen Gias
Studebakers

Having built many custom motorcycles from the ground up I am not a real big fan of anything stock. I love the chopped tops and custom paint of the Hot rod world. Its cool to see how everyone customizes their cars differently. I am currently restoring a 79 IH Scout for my wife. Her family had one when she was growing up and she loved it. Picked it up from a guy that brought it up from AZ has only 54,000 original miles. Got it for $2500.

I've been down this road and it has never worked out for me. I just stick to good credit and income. I'm not as scary as the creditors they have refused to pay so why should they pay me? I find most people with bad credit can come up with the double deposit no problem. But once you comb through their credit they are a total mess and currently delinquent. The more willing they are to pay a double deposit the higher risk they probably are. Responsible, credit worthy people don't want to do that.

Yes, tax returns and bank statements showing consistent income for self-employed.

Go vacant instead of getting in bed with a tenant that is going to make your life hell.

I have to agree with Chris...I lowered my standards on a tenant and raised the deposit to cover or at least what I thought would cover the risk involved. BIG MISTAKE....2 months later they were late and late every month until 7 months later when I had to evict which was the middle of January so by the time I washed all the freshly painted walls and cleaned the once spotless house out and got it rented again I had lost over $3k so I don't think the extra little bit you charge for deposit is worth it. I would let the house sit empty first. NEVER lower your standards. IMHO

I'll go see, thanks for the link!

   IDK...he could be all those things..seems to be somebody new every week with a crazy prediction. Either i'm getting paranoid or i'm starting to believe some of this could really happen. Five years ago I had nothing to lose now that I own several properties I seem to always be on the lookout for the safety of my investments.

Yes its those radio ads. Thats where I heard it yesterday so I went and listened to his video on Youtube. I always go into these types of things with my guard up because there seems to be so many people scamming now a days. When I was done I felt like i needed to change a few things in my portfolio. If what he says is true we are headed for some very interesting times in the next few years. He is not the first person i've heard predict the demise of the dollar but makes some very valid points. I recommend at least listening to it but with an open mind. He is trying to sell his newsletter at the end but he doesn't push it real hard...not like some Guru's on late night TV

I'm looking to get a new security system for my personal residence and was wondering if anyone could recommend what systems the best. I've thought about installing it myself but wasn't sure if its cost effective or should i just pay somebody like ADT? I'm very hands on person so i don't think it would be a problem for me but wondered if it would even be worth it. Plus would it be as good of a system as ADT or another comparable brand?
