Has anyone setup a Series LLC in Indiana ?

I currently have several properties in a couple of LLC's and looking to move them to a series LLC for better individual property protection. Thoughts ?

@Jim Goebel - Good insights

The other thing I have considered is take the walls down to the frame and start over correctly with permits. It’s a shame to tear down good walls, but might be the path of least resistance

@Jim Goebel Thanks

We didn’t add outlets as the other walls already had outlets

Hi

We bought a house last year and hired a contractor (who is now not in business) to build a couple of interior walls so we could have a couple of extra bedrooms. The walls don’t have any electric outlets, so seemed like a simple remodel. This is the first time we have done any kind of remodel work. What we didn’t realize until recently is that he never acquired permits to build the walls.

So wondering what are my options to get this corrected ? Thoughts ?

Thanks

Hi Danny,

Even thought this contractor has done work me the past, I am done with him.   I tend to work with people I can trust.   I do agree, the stress this causes might not be worth it.   Chalk it up to an expensive lessons learnt.  Hopefully other BP readers will also learn from this and some of the advice you and others have provided.

Thanks for the advice and tips.  I will definitely put it to use.

Let me ask you a few questions....

Did you do a contract with this "contractor"?

If he is a contractor: Did you ask for Insurance and License? Did you check if he really is a contractor on your State's Website? Did you check if his license is Active at the moment?

Yes - He is a registered general contractor in this state and I have a contract as well his license and insurance information.   I do not have any "bond" information or not even sure if he has one.

1) If you did a contract and this guy is really a contractor, you can do a bunch of things to make sure you get your money back or get his license suspended or revoked.

I like this idea - Better than going to court.

Call the licensing board in your state and explain the situation. Also call the Building Department and explain your situation. They will bring this Licensed Contractor to a table with you and try to solve this issue.

2) If this guy does not have a license. Please do not call him a contractor and call him a handy man. Issues with handy man are different. In this case, don't even bother... you have little chance to get your money back.... IMHO

 Thanks Javier for the advice !

Hope this helps just a little.👍🏻ps first time posting lol I hate to see people getting screwed when there trying to make a better life for themselves.

Thanks David !  Apprecaite the tips.

Thanks Aaron - Definitely the whole cost versus effort has been playing on my mind.  Havent' decided which way to go yet.  Appreciate the feedback.
