In reference to your question, as far as I know there's no books on this specific market, but since I've been involved in a few markets already, I think that NYC is just as any other market, accept that the returns in NYC on buy & hold runs very small, it's more of a appreciation play, or figure out a creative way of adding value to the property.

You can try to get a hard money loan, but it would eat up a nice amount of your profits. 

Just make sure you're confident with the numbers, that's what will make it or break it.
