There are plenty of ways to do it but if you plan to use a VA Loan you'll want to narrow down the area you are looking at buying you home as the loan limits vary county by county.

Visit the Federal Housing Finance Agency - Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Maximum Loan Limits for Mortgages for 2017

find your area and start from there. Connect with me if you need any help starting.

First, let me say Thank You for your service. Where (City, County, State) do you plan to use your VA Home Loan? I ask because I am a Marine Corps Vet and CA Real Estate Agent (CalBRE #01969244) I can help with some research and connect you with a Military Friendly RE Agent in your area.

Right now the VA Loan limits in LOS ANGELES COUNTY CA is $636,150 for One-Unit (SFR), $814,500 for Two-Unit, $984,525 for a Three-Unit, and $1,223,475 for a Four-Unit

Though I am down in San Diego I would be willing to help you in LA County. Like Aaron Merriman stated there are some other concerns to account for. I have VA Home Loan professionals I can put you in contact with, they can help you figure out the numbers.

If you are ever looking to invest in the San Diego County, CA area or in the SW Riverside County, CA area - contact me with your buying criteria and I'll pass along to you any listings that match.

Not sure how long you have served but if I were you with the knowledge I have now. I suggest you re-enlist and request a transfer to wherever you want to end your Military Career at. Its a lot easier to get your VA Loan while you are still enlisted than trying to get it afterward, trust me on this one. If that's not possible I suggest you get an intent to hire letter from your future employer at least 2 months before your end of tour.

Good Luck
