Why don't you share articles and books regarding real estate investing with her? Write down your goals and process to achieve those goals, then share with your wife. Tell her that all of your actions are to better your family's financial future, and you have a network of people (BP members) that are willing to help you along the journey. Keep us posted!

Thanks @Rick H. I will take the trip over to the courthouse. I do agree that going the extra mile can be very beneficial.

Hi James, I just passed the MA real estate exam and chose a local brokerage that specializes in short sales, investors/investment properties. I found that I was offered a higher commission split versus going with a large national franchised brand. I will be learning how to flip properties (a system different than what I currently use) with the owner and other investors. This was a better fit for me as I am more interested in real estate investing versus being only an agent, but I will have all of the tools to earn commissions, just as I would at a national brand. Figure out what you are looking to achieve when joining a brokerage, and ask questions accordingly. Do you want to be an agent only, or a firm that focuses on all aspects of real estate investing? Hope this helps!

In MA, when you pass your state exam, as I just have a month ago, you need to associate yourself with a broker. The broker I hung up my license with does not participate in the National Association of Realtors, so I am an agent or salesperson. If my office was a member of the Association, and I then paid dues as a member, I would be considered a REALTOR. Basically, by paying dues as a member, you can be a Realtor, and enjoy the benefits that the Association provides. As a salesperson, I can still receive commissions and use the MLS, without being a Realtor. Realtor is a professional name you can use as a member. Hope this helps.
