I think one of the best things you can do is to find a mentor in your area and learn from them. You will, of course, be able to learn a great amount from BiggerPockets but finding someone who is doing what you want to be doing is one of the quickest way to learn.

I also suggest talking to local lenders and realtors to get a better opinion of which city/area might fit your investing goals the best. @Joe Kilchermann

It sounds like you are off to a great start. For out of state investing I recommend forming a quality team in the area. I am sure you will be able to meet the right people through BP and gain a wide variety of knowledge from them. Talking to local realtors and lenders would be beneficial to start and help guide you in the right direction.

As far as markets go I can say that Columbus has had a lot of success overall and there are many parts of the city that can be invested in for cash flow or appreciation. Best of luck in your search! @Greg Elfrink

I have been to Europe a few times, while the majority of my time being spent in Spain. I thought Lisbon was a fantastic city, but haven't looked deeper into the real estate market other than the surface level. What are the major advantages of investment properties in Lisbon and separates it apart from other European cities/investments? @Luís Ferreira

It sounds like you are off to a great start for your plan. A lot of it will come down to networking, which you will be able to meet many people on BP to help you with areas that might be a little grey right now. I would suggest trying to get into contact with a variety of American lenders, accountants and lawyers and see which course of action benefits your goals the most.

As you talked about, finding a solid team is crucial and can add extreme value to you and your future investments. Finding one part of that team is the first step and they will often have referrals for other people that will ultimately become a part of your team. A desired market will be different for everyone, depending on what they are looking for so in a sense there are no right or wrong answers. I am based out of Columbus, OH and I have seen a lot great things occurring.

Keep doing research and best of luck in your search! @Les Edwards

Talking to a variety of lenders would definitely be a good start and gaining knowledge based off the ones who specialize in what you're looking for. @Sascha Weinberg
