I am currently looking at a few multifamily properties in the Hampton roads area. I plan on using either my VA loan or an FHA. Does anyone have any past experience obtaining either of those loans with a local lender? If so, who, and how was your experience?

Hi BP,

I have been listening to podcasts and reading various books for quite some time. I have a good basic knowledge of real estate investing having grown up around it and by self education. I am in the military stationed in Newport News and am looking to purchase my first multifamily property within the next 12 months using an FHA loan. I am interested primarily in buy and hold and look forward to learning more from this site.

I just went to the credit union I use to inquire about an FHA loan to acquire a multifamily. I was told that FHA loans can not be used on any property with more than two units. This is the first time I've heard this. Was I misinformed, or has there been a change in the program?

Thank you

I am currently in the military and stationed in Newport News, VA. I am looking at purchasing either a small single family home (which I would finance through a conventional loan or through a contact I have who offers seller financing) or I am looking at purchasing a duplex with and FHA loan to house hack for 12 months and rent it out immediately after.

The issue I'm having is if I go through with one of these scenarios, I will be moving back to the west coast in about two years.

I would have to then use a property management company on the property. I am curious to which property in general would make more sense if all the numbers were identical. Does one have more advantages over the other? I know multifamily tend to have a higher turnover rate which in turn would cost me more. Is there any other factors I should be considering?

Thank you

I'm looking to expand my knowledge in residential real estate. I am mostly interested in multifamily homes at this time. I have read many books and have watched many people succeed, but am looking for a new avenue of learning before I fully jump in. I have looked online and haven't seen too many seminars or workshops in my area. I am currently in Newport News, VA. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or any resources on where to find valuable seminars or other avenues of learning.

Hi I am looking into purchasing multifamily homes in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia. I am planning on using an FHA loan on the first property which will be a duplex or triplex. I am looking for anyone currently pursuing the same path in this area or nearby cities who is willing to share advice.

Thank you
