BiggerPockets podcast and website, reading the books that people say is their favorite book on the podcast, going to local meetups. The problem isn't where to find the content, the problem is finding the time to get through all of it!

Finding the right property where the numbers work in Salt Lake City.  I've got a specific property profile (small multi-family, under 300k purchase price, 6-8% cap rate, C property in a B neighborhood) and about 100k in cash to invest but finding something that works locally is tough, so expanding to neighboring counties.

@Chase Noel

Welcome!  I'm just getting started also.  Started out as a developer too.  I'm going to go check out the Meetup next Thursday to meet some more folks.  Check it out at http://www.meetup.com/Utah-Real-Estate-Investors-A....

Good luck!

@Tina Mackay

Welcome to Bigger Pockets!  I'm just starting out on the same adventure.  There are a couple of meet ups I've found locally that have been really good.  I know there's a Utah Valley one also.  Those have been a great way to meet other professionals to help build your team.  Good luck!

@Joe Au @Shanel Wiggins @Kyle J. @Nicole A.

Thank you all for the good advice.  I'm going to do some digging around to see if I can find some proof that its a high adjustment.  @Joe Au , definitely appreciate the local point of view.  I just recently refi-ed and was surprised at the equity I pulled out, so it may be in alignment.  I guess I can't have it both ways, cheap taxes and great equity.

Hi All,

I just got a notice from Salt Lake County Auditor's office that value on one of my properties increased by close to 20% and so my taxes are also increasing.  I know the market is hot in SLC but a 20% increase in value in a year seems steep.  Does anyone have any experience appealing the new market value on these valuations?  I know there's an appeal process but it asks that you submit evidence of "your opinion of value".  Not really sure what that would be.

Appreciate any guidance or experience you can share.

Hey Jeff Rappaport , would love to hear about those meet ups. I can't message you either. When I got to the contact tab on your profile, it's blank. Definitely interested in the BP Meetup (happening next week, right?)

I've just been using the MLS in salt lake. Though, I'm focusing more on Ogden. Lower entry point and taxes are less. Duplexes mostly.
