Appealing County Assessor's Valuation

Hi All,

I just got a notice from Salt Lake County Auditor's office that value on one of my properties increased by close to 20% and so my taxes are also increasing.  I know the market is hot in SLC but a 20% increase in value in a year seems steep.  Does anyone have any experience appealing the new market value on these valuations?  I know there's an appeal process but it asks that you submit evidence of "your opinion of value".  Not really sure what that would be.

Appreciate any guidance or experience you can share.

@Alan Walker

I appealed my property taxes before in my county and was successful because I brought evidence in the form of an appraisal and recent sold comps.  80-90% of the other people who had their cases heard before me all lost their appeal because all they brought in were Zillow printouts showing what Zillow estimated their home to be worth.  Don't bring in a Zillow printout.  That is not evidence of anything.

For your county, this is what is considered evidence: http://slco.org/tax-administration/how-to-file-an-appeal/evidence/
