If you think gas prices are high now, just wait until you're forced to drive an EV

I saw this in a story regarding an event in Las Vegas:

Marjorie Taylor Greene, speaking at a Donald Trump rally, tackled the topic of electric vehicles in a way that left many attendees puzzled. She boldly claimed, "If you think gas prices are high now, just wait until you're forced to drive an electric vehicle,"

I, like many others, doubt she has actually driven an EV let alone charged one. That is too bad, because with some understanding she may gain an appreciation for them when property used. I hope that happens. For those in BP Nation who don't know, EVs like my F-150 Lightning run 100% on electricity via batteries and do not use petroleum products as fuel. Other F-150 models can run on gas or diesel, but the Lightning runs on electricity-driven motors.

As for cost, my nuclear-powered Duke Energy NC Residential Service (RES) costs $0.11661 per kWh. At 100kWh to charge my truck yesterday, from about 15% charge to 95% charge, my cost was $11.66. That $11.66 allowed me to drive 250 miles. So, my cost per mile is ($11.66/250 miles) $0.04664/mile, or about $0.05 per mile. A nickel per mile.

The 2025 RAM 1500 (gas) gets 17-23 MGP which represents one of the best in its class for fuel efficiency. Well, at $0.05 per mile, a gallon of gas should be $0.85 to $1.15 to match what I pay in the EV MGP-equivalent. I'll stick to the Lightning... but I still have my long-paid-off 1996 RAM 3500 dually and 1999 RAM 2500 just in case (especially if I ever have to tow long distances.)

As an early adoptor of EV I bought my first Tesla in 2016.. And have bought 5 of them since.

So for the last 3 years I had 3 of them.. one for wife one for me and one for staff..

In Oregon its even better our Juice goes down to 4 cents a Kilo wat at 10pm to 6am. So takes 50 KW for 250 miles of range.. not sure on your lightning but the tesla you plug in and then program when to start charging.  I did sell mine just a few months ago and I bought a new 4 runner in dec so I could get 100% write off.. but buying gas is a new experience I wont even look at how much it costs I am afraid we are 3.50 to 4.00 her in Oregon..

Now in Vegas at our place there there is non discount it cost about 3 to 4X to fill up the Tesla there.

The one I just sold was grandfathered into free super charging so I never paid when I went over land out of state etc.

I need the 4 runner for fishing trips back into the boonies.

PS I was going to buy a cybertruck but I needed it in Dec for the write off I did not get an opportunity to buy it till feb.  And then the first ones you had to buy a special package and it was 100k for that one so I passed for the time being.. So at this point not sure I will ever buy a cybertruck.

@Jay Hinrichs Hey Jay. If you tell NVenergy you have an EV they’ll discount your power from midnight to 9 am to 5 cent/kw. (They used to ask for a title but I think I just showed insurance card last time. Or nothing, depends on worker.) You can also signup for TOU so you pay 11cent/kw the rest of the time except 6-9pm June-Sept.

is this new ?  3 or 4 years ago I did call and they said no.. thats great news.. love those $ 2.50 cent fill ups :)

Yes, that's what I've heard. The costs and pollution from gas powered vehicles are high after production. With EVs those are high during production of the vehicles.

ya other than walking I think every mode of transportation uses some form of energy and does its share of depleting resources and pollution etc.
