Aspiring investor in central AL

Jon Averette
Posted

Hey folks! I'm a 30 year old husband and soon-to-be dad in a dead end sales job in Alabama. I've been interested in real estate investment since college but I've either been without the capital or without the confidence to take the first step. I'm very interested in BRRR but find it a little intimidating. I'm joining Bigger Pockets to try to connect with people who can teach me and encourage me. If you're local to central Alabama I'd love to hear from you!

Welcome to BP - Alabama is a great market for BRRRR, I think you are well located to pursue that strategy - lots of great resources here though!

    @Jon Averette

    Great to see that you’re from Tuscaloosa—I’m active in the area as well!

    Lucky for you, your own backyard is an excellent (and often overlooked) place to begin investing, thanks in part to Tuscaloosa’s proximity to Birmingham, UA’s steady enrollment growth, and the market’s favorable rent-to-price ratio.

    As for your comment about BRRRR, you're right that it's definitely one of the more time- and labor-intensive approaches. That said, it could be a good choice if you're capital constrained and need to recycle equity from deal to deal.

    However, if you have capital to deploy and want to take a more hands-off approach, targeting a turnkey, rent-ready offering could be a better approach for your first deal.

    Full disclosure: I own rentals and operate a turnkey provider in Tuscaloosa—let me know if there are any questions I can answer for you!

    Great to connect! I've been investing in the Birmingham market for over 5 years now. Currently, I own 26 doors and run a property management company that oversees 350+ units. While we manage a few in Tuscaloosa, our primary focus is Birmingham—it's a fantastic market for value-add and BRRRR strategies.

    If you’d like to hop on a call, feel free to DM me. I’d be happy to share insights and tips to help you get started and work toward achieving your goals. Real estate can be intimidating at first, but with the right guidance and mindset, it’s absolutely achievable.

    Hey Jon, welcome to BP! First off, congrats on the soon-to-be dad's life—huge milestone right there! BRRR can definitely seem like a beast at first, but once you get rolling, it's a game-changer. You're already doing the right thing by plugging into a community like this—plenty of folks here who've been in your shoes and are willing to help.

    I’m from Leesburg - and would love to connect. You’ve got this—one deal can change everything! 👊

    Hi there. I'm a Michigander who relocated to the Wetumpka area permanently because of the great weather and affordability. I have a corporate job but have owned 2 rental homes in the Cleveland Ohio market several years ago. I'm interested in getting back into the rental market and growing a portfolio in my new home state. From Huntsville to the shores, I'm interested in long term to STR.
