Multifamily Investing Books

Hey Guys,

I am reading The Complete Guide To Buying And Selling Apartment Buildings by Steve Burges. My goal is to transition into multifamily investing from SFR. Are there any other good books on multifamily and apartment investing that you have enjoyed and would recommend?

Thanks!

Derek

I just picked up a new book called "Financial Freedom with Real Estate Investing" by @Michael Blank I am only about 50 pages in, but so far it is really good.

Also:

Multi-Family Millions by David Lindahl

Emerging Markets by David Lindahl

ABC's of Real Estate Investing by Ken McElroy

Wheelbarrow of Profits by Jake Stenziano and @Gino Barbaro

Hi Derek,

I’m reading Raising Private Capital by Matt Faircloth right now. It’s a wealth of information.

Are you looking for books on getting started, assessing deals and/or property management?

@Derek B. Williams I'm in the same boat. A few books I've found extremely valuable thus far:

  • The Millionaire Real Estate Investor by Gary Keller (more of a "mindset" book)
  • The Complete Guide to Buying and Selling Apartment Buildings by Steve Berges
  • How to Take an Apartment Building from Money Pit to Money Maker by Craig Haskell
  • Emerging Real Estate Markets: How to Find and Profit from Up-and-Coming Areas by David Lindahl

Currently, I'm reading Real Estate Finance and Investments by Peter Linneman which is deep dive into commercial finance (the "boring stuff") which I find very interesting.

Industry Trends/News:

  • Multifamily Executive Magazine
  • Bisnow

Thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback.

@Todd Dexheimer Thank you for those suggestions, I will definitely check them out.  Do you have a favorite you suggest I start with?

@Teresa Buchanan I am looking for books that focus on sourcing and evaluating multifamily deals.  However, I would like to learn as much as I can about the space so I am open to any recommendations that deal with any of the different aspects of MF ownership.

@Larry Caper Great list Larry, thank you!

"Crushing It in Apartments and Commercial Real Estate" by Brian Murray.

I believe he did a podcast with BP as well. Haven't finished it yet but he lays things out really well.

To add to the great lists above, here are my choices:

  • Commercial Real Estate Investing for Dummies by Peter Conti & Peter Harris
  • Commercial Real Estate Investing: A Creative Guide to Successfully Making Money by Dolf de Roos
  • Commercial Real Estate for Beginners: The Basics of Commercial Real Estate Investing by Peter Harris
  • The Perfect Investment: Create Enduring Wealth from the Historic Shift to Multifamily Housing by Paul Moore
  • How to Buy and Sell Apartment Buildings by Eugene E. Vollucci

Happy reading!

I would start with Multifamily Millions by David Lindahl.  That one really opened my eyes to multi-family.  Truth be told, I enjoyed his second book more (Emerging Markets), but it's hard to beat MF Millions as an introduction

@Derek B. Williams While they are not directly related to Multifamily Investing, these books have helped me narrow in on other skills needed for the Industry. - The one thing by Gary Keller (How to simplifiy and prioritise your time and efforts) - Pitch Anything by Oren Klaff (How to Pitch and sell effectively) - The power of habit by Charles Duhigg - Never Split the difference by Chris Voss (FBI based negotiation) Just a few alternate books that will also help you In your multifamily journey.

@Derek B. Williams if you want to get into multifamily, the best thing you can learn is how to raise money. Richard Wilson has a book called Capital Raising that is very good. I also recommend the Copywriter's Handbook. It will help you write better to attract more clients.

I'm really enjoying this thread. Some great suggestions. Michael Blank and Dave Lindahl one familiar with. The others I'm not. I would add Lance Edwards "How To Make Money In Small Apartments".

I recommend "Financial freedom for real estate success" by Michael Blank. It give a no-nonsense overview of syndication. For a more in depth analysis graduate to The best ever apartment syndication book by Joe Fairless. Both authors are knowledgeable and active members here. Best of luck!

Hey Derek,

The best book I have seen out so far is Joe Fairless's book. https://www.amazon.com/Best-Ever-Apartment-Syndication-Book/dp/0997454326. I hands down shows you what you need to do to become a successful apartment investor from start to finish.
