They also recommend the 3 foot/6 foot rule.... keep shrubs no higher than 3 feet and trim branches off trees from the ground up to six feet, so they are harder to hide behind.

I typically stay away from or remove immediately trees within 15 feet of the house just because of all the issues the cause.
