Add to that that women aren't socialized for self-promotion (partly because most of us have bigger fish to fry than fluffing up our egos), so we're not clamoring to get on the mic.

Tire kickers are likely not motivated to sell on their first call, but if they (or someone they know) ever becomes motivated, it is imperative that you are prepared from that first call to promote yourself as a professional who can provide a solution to their problem.  

If you do this a couple months in a row you will become the candy man and will have embedded into the brain of people who can promote that you buy and sell houses.You could take this one step farther and create a mini flyer wrap around a chocolate bar and deliver them that way but the two or three pieces of candy is less expensive and the fact that you deliver a business card they can hold onto is more powerful than a wrapper that will be thrown away.

Its sad how that end of the business is promoted on BP... or talked about on BP.. with out thought to the seller and what a pickle you can put a seller into if you don't close. 

@Walt Payne Weirdly or not so weird one can't really answer a question like the one asked as self promotion is frowned upon here.
