Just simply tape or post notices or post cards to the door and maybe someone will notice and contact the original owner of record.

its a pretty typical REO Transaction, I was a Listing Broker for Fannie for years, the process has changed a bit, but the basics have not, dont send them an offer of 50% of list an expect them to accept, just not gona happen (in most cases) the closing can be slow, but most REO's are, and be sure the title company gets a special assessment letter, its often missed.

SRF rentals (one off) is a tad diff than MFU, where you're managing several tenants(as in our 6-units).We noticed that tenants were apparently accustom to landlord abuse and obviously a new landlord meant rent increases were coming.Being an absentee landlord, we didn't need a mass exodus.
