If you are out of market there are a variety of ways to manage but especially if you are going to live in the market where you buy I would recommend a few months minimum of self management and learning how to do it from valuable resources like this and others.

Nathan Platter I've heard of Thumbtack but never used it , it sounds similar to a service called Red Beacon I had used in the past which was owned by Home Depot , the name changed to something else I believe.It was nice as you could get a variety of bids/estimates by showing pictures and description of the work needed .
