Wow! Love this forum! I've wanted to invest in real estate for over a decade, but I never really had the stability to do it.

My family and I live in the Springfield, MO area. We've been renting out our previous home in Las Vegas for about 4 years now while I've been in graduate school. I have a goal of acquiring 100 rentals in 20 years or less, and now that we're settled we're ready to do it!

I've worked in banking, insurance, rough framing, and concrete (flatwork). I have a BS degree in construction management from BYU. I worked in Las Vegas for McCarthy managing commercial construction projects for about a year before I was laid off due to the recession. I went back to school and got a Masters of Medical Science degree in anesthesiology from Emory University. I now work as an anesthetist where I do anesthesia under the direction of an anesthesiologist.

I would love a couple tips on starting my business. I want to do it right from the beginning. I mean structural and logistical.

For example, I've read a lot about having an accountant and an attorney. This is all foreign to me. Can I just walk into an accountants office and say, "Hey, I want to start a business. Help me set up an LLC and tell me how to maximize my tax savings."? Same thing with the attorney (for contracts and representation). How do I approach these people, and what do I say?

Probably better to find some people 'in the business' (real estate investors/landlords) in your area and ask them for a referral. Lots of attorneys and accountants know little to nothing about real estate and can do you more harm than good.

This post comes from personal experience and I approve this message.
