You can ask for financial records and references from vendors, banks, etc. who do business with them.

If you owe $300k and they take $400k worth of properties from you defaulting, they can only take the $300k + attorney and court fees and you get the rest.So ultimately, it shouldn't make a difference between non recourse or recourse anyways.
