We change the batteries once a year and in case the batterris die or lock malfuntions, we have a key in a lock box attached to the house somewhere, like the  water spicket or gas meter.

I haven't used SimpliSafe, but I know Arlo has a two week battery so you can mount it outside and then take it down to charge while you are there.

I just finished paying for a electricians to install smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms to bring my first property up to code but It dawned on me that I could have used battery powered alarms, is either much better than the other?
