I really can't believe that I did it but I am so confident in myself now about the knowledge I needed to gain and the credibility I wanted to achieve.

We are not there now.....but if you look the massive amount of building, good stock market performance, low unemployment  we are doing well, but change 1 or 2 of those factors in a negative way and you will see changes......almost always goes in cycles.What is great now is kids hate buying homes and an aging population is moving to rental....at the same time, inventory on the residential market should get interesting as well with these to factors and rising interest rates.....all spec....not an expert.

Both my wife and I are wanting to get involved with Real estate, I have been researching areas, listening to podcasts, and reading books to expand my knowledge.

It has been often suggested here and elsewhere to pursue something that keeps a toe in the water of the working world, as it limits the downside risks, and could turn into a fruitful enterprise for post-retirement.At the request of a friend and BP associate, I've been asked to provide expert opinion and electrical analysis on residential properties that are either on the market, or recently sold through his brokerage, as there are many customers who want a deeper look at their electrical system, deeper than what a typical home inspector will do, but they are not ready to ask a contractor to come out and simply give a blank check to 'fix whatever's wrong' (famous last words).

@Zach Jacob, I'm not an expert on the subject, but have talked extensively with others about this very thing.

@Bernadeau Charles Most alternatives mentioned either require you have intermediate level of real estate knowledge or have a pedestrian user interface (I've used most of them).
