There is an excellent one in Des Moines that I used to be a member of, but the long drive made it too inconvenient.  

The returns are excellent, and it is far more passive than owning a single property on your own, as the managers do everything.  

There are probably 5 posts a day, all of which are excellent (personally, I'm a big fan of @Dave Van Horn and Sterling White).As far the BP podcast, I've enjoyed everyone that I've listened to (especially episode #113 with Jay Papasan). 

@J Scott's book is excellent!  

I also have a background in education (BS and MS) so I'm sure you'll do very well :-) There's a lot of excellent information given for free here from the novice to the expert.
