Pulling it out is a horrible, messy affair and, once it is out I cannot imagine why you would close-up the walls again without insulating {the fellow who renovated your Vicky should be slapped ;) } We have found closed cell spray foam to be the best solution in these situations as your studs/wall cavities will be neither uniform nor of a {modern} conventional thickness.
