There is required insurance if you are in a designated flood zone, such as coastal, river lowlands, etc; and then there is coverage for sewer backups, burst pipes, roof leaks/damage causing interior water damage, etc.

While it may be correct that houses from the 1900's and 1920's may require extensive reconstruction and structural design due to its substandard or deteriorated condition, the philosophy for some Realtors/investors is 'the older the property, the better'.

I also personally know friends and relatives with older children whose in their 40's and 50's, with social and mental issues, still at home with mom and dad, rent free, and mom and dad tells us that they're worried when they're gone, they don't know what will happen.
