It all boils down to your contract, if it was a lumpsum, then you are out of luck, if it only said "Demo, Paint, Finish Basement -- $30,000", for sure they could call Demo 10k then the rest 20k -- hell, they could even declare that demo was 20k and 10k for the rest, and you'll owe them money.
