I don't know what state you are in but you can likely register it yourself for cheap at the treasury of state website.

I would much prefer giving my rent money to an investor that cares about their tenants rather than throwing money at some luxury building that feels soulless.I thought it was simply easier coming to the website where property owner's talk rather the hellscape that is Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. 

I understand all that, but what throws me off is that the house was previously assessed to be lot higher, and then when the previous owner came in, it was cut in about half...and then now that they fixed up the place and sold it to me, looks like the assessment went right back up.
