I am assuming that the purpose of the beam was to distribute load but there are typically 2 reasons to add a beam 1) aesthetics in which case it is tough to do major wrong and not costly 2) to distribute load (easy to do wrong and more costly).If my assumptions are correct about the beam is to distribute load, pay to get it done correctly.

It may be a high quality car but the visual aesthetics may simply not be as appealing to some.  

Also, like Mark said, those standard contracts typically require you to find something that is not aesthetic or obvious prior to your making the offer in order to terminate.
