Texas has a great economy and pretty stable housing, but in my opinion, you can get much better returns in other Midwest markets like Indianapolis as Mehran K. mentioned and Kansas City.

Its just especially frustrating when I talk to someone from Florida for instance (where a fair amount of WI residents move to retire, especially on the west coast for some reason) and they mention a tax bill barely into four figures for a fairly nice home or condo, its truly laughable compared to what we go through up here!
