@Laura Lindeman yah, I also like that with certificate of mailing you don’t have to get it signed by the recipient, unlike certified mail which requires a signature. 

I'm presuming 1099, if so I want proof of insurance, naming my company as recipient.2.

I think what happens is when it is paid by a check sent by the bank, people think the "pay by" date is the day that the recipient receives the check.
