I do know of a company that may be able to provide this data nationally but they are not cheap.

I take the data(house numbers) and go back to the computer to look up on the county's website to find the owners name and mailing address.

The most common example is when the landlord sends the renter’s application information to a third party screening company who then pulls the credit data.

I believe the data above shows that one needs 3-5 years time to make it work.

You won't find that the MLS instantly opens the door to investments you couldn't find on Zillow, but it does help you learn your market by looking at historical data.

I also am exploring doing RE from my couch, so I can do deals in different areas.

But have you explored direct mail, knocking on doors, working directly with sellers?
