@Karen Margrave I’m pretty diligent in my screening and make every effort to ensure I am not discriminating or even mention a protected class in my ad and qualification requirements.

What kind of qualification questions are you asking that you feel benefited in getting better tenants? 

Over those few months I had 5 applicants who paid the application fee, knowing the minimum qualifications to rent the property, and were denied for not meeting the minimum qualifications!  

It's understandable that you would like to help people in need but you are also running a business and if someone isn't employed or their income doesn't meet qualifications that would be a red flag even in the best of times.

I haven't ever targeted a specific occupation for tenant groups but rather holistically evaluating their qualifications and ability to pay.

Of the ones I get back, maybe 25% have decent qualifications. 

Check them out thoroughly they may meet your qualifications. 

None of them has to meet any qualification to be on the board - other than simply be an owner of one of the condos.So, can you trust them to make good decisions regarding how your investment will appreciate in value? 

@Noah Willard they meet all the qualifications, so I am not sure what else there is to discuss?

I would require the boyfriend to complete a rental application and be approved according to your qualifications.
