I'm reaching out to people who are dealing with a very specific, anxiety-inducing problem, and I'm addressing this exact issue in my direct mail piece (pointing out the problem, highlighting the consequences of their inaction, and offering them a solution that is simple and easy for them to accept).It helps to know exactly who you're targeting (whatever their issue is), because it allows you to put yourself in their shoes and tailor your mail piece to communicate directly to those issues (rather than writing a generic message that doesn't really speak to their actual problem).

If I put myself in your shoes and had to make this decision, I would compare the amount of grants (free money) I would be getting from FAFSA for each of my kids over the 10 years and see what kind of tax burden of the capital gain hit in 10 years.

I suspected that people would be expecting me to know who they were, when they called but what everyone here is telling me is it is ok to ask them who they are, what their situation is etc...I guess my hang up was that I was trying to put myself in the person's shoes.

If I were in the sellers shoes I would think taking the time to at least handwriting the address would send a strong message that I am an actual person and not a printing machine send the mail.Will Barnard, I used my first and last name on the return address label and I thought that if the seller really wanted to know my last name they would just look at the envelope.
