@Eric DeVito I am partial to Columbus, Ohio because of the great things going on here right now, combined with property still remaining relatively affordable...I personally would't focus on the most popular areas for investing...due to the piranhas that inevitability show up to hot markets and drive up prices.

Here is my suggestion, its what I did with my first deal: I would research and look for a place that had the right combination of big enough for your entire family, distressed (but fixable), and move into it while rehabbing it yourself.
