I was able to take care of the noise problem then.On the other hand, maybe their complaint isn't reasonable.  

You can have the "I'll grind it out/sacrifice now, so I can live great when I'm 60" mentality only for so long.

In other words, imagine your brother running the washer/dryer upstairs - and which room would be affected downstairs by that noise and vice versa.  

For example, no rice, pasta, grease or oil, for these gum up the pipes terribly and bring most disposals to a grinding halt.

Even if your college guys don't cause noise problems with the neighbors, they will probably want to change roommates fairly often.  

Look at it as if your neighbor called an AC company because your unit was making too much noise by their window and the company fixed it - would that be your bill?

You can do the grind for a few years as the operator but over time it will wear you down and have adverse effects on quality of life.

If they continue to make noise, even though they've been warned, they get kicked out. 

So, I dealt swiftly with noise problems. 

What college students want in housing (whether an apartment or a house, in no particular order):-Proximity to campus-Parking - the more parking, the better-The neighbor situation - during college my buddy rented a house located next to a 9-5 business = no noise complaints when he had parties = awesome rental-Is there a yard for entertaining?
