The Chicago RLTO is pretty strict and you should refer to that before you do anything.

I would start with a focus on the references they provide.  

If either of you think they need to move, facilitate that too - offer good reference, help finding a place, moving assistance. whatever can get you possession back quickly.Seems like they are good long term tenants, so try to salvage it, but be wise enough to realize when it is impossible and move on too.
