It was a risk we continue to accept because it will probably work in our favor in the long term.In the last two years the state legislature has passed laws that remove local control over development, water quality, tree cutting and protections for houses with historic designations. 

I had a rental property in 2004 that had tree roots growing through the line and sewage backed up inside the house.

Long term I will continue to plant trees but also maybe one day build a cabin.

I also allow an extra hour when I book the sewer tech in case the drain needs to be snaked (tree roots clog the pipes and won't allow the scope to be finished in some cases).

I just purchased my first home out in Joshua Tree, CA and have quite a few projects I need done in and around the house.

Remove/trim trees that could fall, and repair anything that does not look like it will last another few years. 

Secure the debt now, plant the seeds, and watch those trees grow and become prosperous.

Many cities in CA are paying owners to do this and offer free plants to reduce water usage and free trees to reduce carbon.
