A corporate entiry structure may be preferrable to an LLC structure under a limited set of circumstances, such as having foreign investors (due to FIRPTA).

I guess it's not foreign to you since you work in IT.

Hello Vanessa,I hate to put  to put a damper on all the positive responses you have received above, but as as a foreign investor I would recommend staying as far away as possible from Detroit.

Andres -- There is a strong spirit for sharing information, but avoiding saturation is the currency of STRs. 

In parts of BC and ON (not sure about QC) there are additional taxes on foreigners when they buy a house. 

Jobs are increasing, and foreigners are pouring in.

This is really the biggest mistake I see with foreign investors; they start setting up corporations, bank accounts etc. before speaking to a CPA and/or attorney in the US.
