I have found that older neighborhoods and larger houses on corner lots usually have hidden extra units in them, but these don’t show up in search results and finding them is time consuming.

Not unless they failed to secure the property per your instructions or contract.In Detroit, we deal with this all the time and have a standard communcation template, with security options, we send owners as soon as we know a property is vacant or a tenant moving out.Too many owners ignore our communications and then scream when their property is stripped.So, if this is realtively common for the area, while your PMC has no liability, they should be thinking ahead and working with you to minimize the chances of this happening.
