1.5 year old glass top range cracked now what
Purchased a new range about 3 months before current tenants moved in. They notified me today the the top glass cracked in multiple places when heating water last night. I've talked to the local appliance shop that it was purchased from and they said it is more than likely caused from misuse or incorrect care there examples were dropping some thing, sudden change of temp by placing a cold pan on a hot burner, overheating the glass, ect. I have no problem fixing things that are old and break but this has got me questioning them as the range is not very old and they are the only ones that have really used it. My lease states they are responsible for any damages caused from there neglect. Would any of you charge this back to your tenants?

For me it would depend. Have they been decent tenants with few issues and requests and are likely to stay for a while, if so I'd probably let it go but keep track of it if a history/pattern develops. If they've been consistent with damage and or likely to move on soon, then I'd probably push it.
If they are saying that it broke on its own, then they are likely going to be unhappy if you ask them to fix it and it could create animosity and a more tenuous relationship.
If you decide to let it go, I would be clear that this is unusual and something you've never seen before, however, you'll take care of it this time. You are telling them you are reasonable and a decent person to work with, but you are aware and it's not a free for all.
