If you want to have a solo 401k where you will be able to invest in both alternative investments such as real estate, in addition to equities (stocks and mutual funds), then you will need to adopt a solo 401k from a solo 401k provider who can assist you in opening a brokerage account for the solo 401k at Fidelity Investments, TD Ameritrade or Charles Schwab for example.
