We were thinking about installing American flags, but after reading @Brandon Ingegneri post above, I think a star, or some version representing American flag, will be more durable and secure, especially during a NE storm.

For you and the construction you're detailing, that's probably veneer plaster over blueboard (but of course there's an outside chance it's something I'm not familiar with).You can bust that out and put in a drywall ceiling, if you want to go that far...at least, that's what I would do, because that would be the most durable option.

.- Basic pots & pans for cooking- Coffee maker and filters- Salt & Pepper- Utensils, plates, bowls, cups and glasses, coffee mugs (pyrex is inexpensive and durable)- Cooking utensils like large spoons, spatula and basic cooking knives.- Paper products such as toilet paper, a bag of paper napkins, 1 paper towel roll to start them off.
