I myself invest in cashflow but if you are banking on just appreciation then as long as those carrying costs are not too much and you feel confident that the properties are in the path of growth, go for it.

As a side note, we had an airbnb in Aiken SC and did very well there...it is a unique community that has alot of horse and polo people traveling from all over and it has a vibrant Artists community.
