Speak with your plan administrator for details, but generally a 401k loan is limited to the lesser of $50K or 50% of your account value with a term of 60 months.A current employer plan likely cannot be moved to an IRA of your choosing, such as a self-directed IRA.If the 401k is with a former employer, the loan option will no longer be available to you.

The Fed's maintain a data base that banks must check against.When I was wiring money (new customer), they had to verify I was not in the data base.Having the bank getting an attorney involved, seems VERY interesting.
