Abandoned Home for 6 years

There has been a home abandoned on my block now for 6 years. I knew the former owners and am not sure why they left. I have spoken to folks at surrogate court, my county administrator and an estates attorney. They all had something different to say. The home cleaned up is probably worth over 500K. Do I reach out to the owners? I can definitely reach out to them to see what the situation is. What to do???
