Personally I do mine in Utah, simply because it's cheap (if not the cheapest) to buy, and cheap to renew (and I live here).Really the best thing you can do is contact an estate planning attorney that understands Real Estate ownership AND asset protection, as they go hand in hand.

I've actually moved to AZ twice, UT twice and Fl, TX, CO and OR once to buy real estate.

For the past four years at UT, I have been renting, paying +$850/mo to share a room  in a five bedroom home near campus.

Take a look at the UT LC - cost is super low (under $200, compared to CA at over $800), you can register the LC yourself on the state website, renewals are super cheap - less than $20, and you can get a registered agent here pretty cheap also.

It's not a hot location, but maybe we could get some traffic during the UT v.

Well I've had my real estate license for 3 months now in Utah and am working on my Idaho license.
